General Rules
  • The Polding Selections will follow the Rules of Basketball unless otherwise stated.
  • Round-robin games will be played using a size 6 ball.
  • Each game will last 15 minutes with a 10-minute break between games.
  • Diocese Teams must be ready to start at the scheduled time.
  • Managers will substitute players to ensure equal playtime.
  • Games will start and end on the sound of a hooter.
  • No scores will be kept.
  • Diocesan uniforms must be worn. No representative (including Polding) uniforms are allowed.
  • Players should drink plenty of fluids and wear sun protection.
  • Ice and first aid are available for players as needed.
Selection Process
  • Students must attend the selection trial to be considered.
  • Selection is based on demonstrated ability during the trials.
  • Polding Team Managers and selectors will assess players based on NSWPSSA criteria.
  • Diocesan Team Managers assist in identifying outstanding players.
  • No championship points or scores will be recorded.
  • Selection trials end with a Possibles vs Probables game (approximately 18 players).
  • At the trial's conclusion, boys' and girls' teams for the NSWPSSA State Basketball Carnival will be announced.
  • The final Polding Team will consist of 10 players.
Adverse Weather Guidelines

CSNSW Sport prioritizes the safety of players, staff, and spectators in cases of adverse weather. Officials must take necessary precautions to ensure safe playing conditions.

  • Monitor surroundings for signs of adverse weather.
  • Increase monitoring if bad weather is forecasted.
  • The decision to delay, suspend, or resume play will be made by the ground manager/convener based on:
    • Information from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).
    • Physical observations of the weather conditions.
    • Discussions with CSNSW Sport representatives and match officials.
  • The ground manager/convener has full authority to stop an event if needed.

CPS Basketball Challenge

This is a non pathway Basketball competition open to Catholic Primary schools affiliated with NSWCPS with a focus on school communities and faith sharing.

Conditions of Entry

Schools are responsible for Working With Children Checks where non school based personnel are used to manage teams.
ONE staff member (teacher) must accompany the group. Parents may be used to manage teams.
Information packages will be distributed upon nomination.
Each school to complete an online evaluation at the end of the event.
Limited to 120 teams. Max  40 Senior Boys teams, 28 Senior Girls, 28 Junior Boys &  24 Junior Girls teams.
To enter school teams - must be completed by Principal OR approved Sport Coordinator.
A school representative must attend the AGM on the Friday night before the start of the Challenge.
Competitors and staff are to attend the Opening Liturgy on the Saturday morning.
