NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (NSWCCC) Blue Awards - Secondary

The NSWCCC Blue Awards presentation celebrates the top athletes in each sport, across all of the NSW Catholic Secondary Schools. It highlights students who have not just shined in the NSWC Combined Catholic Colleges pathway, but have advanced into NSW All Schools and potentially the School Sport Australian level.

These exceptional students have demonstrated remarkable skill and exceptional talent in their chosen sports, all while embodying the ethos of being kind-hearted Catholic school students.

There are 3 types of NSWCCC Blue Awards handed out:

  • NSWCCC Blue Award (Award given to a student who has been outstanding in that sport)
  • NSWCCC Bar Award (Award given to a student who has been outstanding in that sport, and has received a NSWCCC Blue Award in a previous year)
  • NSWCCC Outstanding Award (Award given to a student who has been outstanding in that sport and has already received a NSWCCC Blue Award and a NSWCCC Bar Award in previous years).

Vince Villa Award

The Vince Villa Award is bestowed upon the most exceptional male and female sportsperson of the year in Catholic Secondary Schools.

Vince significantly contributed to secondary school sports during his tenure as President of the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Sport Association from 1995 to 1996, crucial formative years for the organization. He was dedicated to establishing fair sporting opportunities for all students and educators. His deep passion for sports, coupled with his commitment to justice, clear foresight, and strong organisational skills, made him an exemplary ambassador and leader.

John Sparks Award

The John Sparks Award is given to the most outstanding all-rounder male and female sportsperson of the year in Catholic Secondary Schools. These students are not necessarily the top performing athletes in their sport, but have shown to have skills and talents across a variety of differing sports in the NSWCCC pathway that showcase all-rounder abilities.

John has significantly contributed to the NSWCCC pathway being involved for the past 25 years as Executive Chairperson and Diocesan Representative for Wollongong. His involvement with the NSWCCC pathway has gone above and beyond, and it is most fitting to see the exceptional award named after him.

NSW Catholic Primary Schools (NSWCPS) Sport Awards - Primary

The NSWCPS Awards (MacKillop and Polding), first launched in 2023, were created to honor and celebrate the exceptional athletic achievements of the top athletes across Catholic primary schools in NSW.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, we are thrilled to announce that this exciting initiative will return in 2024, promising another unforgettable celebration of talent, dedication, and sporting excellence.

There are 3 types of NSWCPS Maroon Awards Handed out:

  • NSWCPS Maroon Award (Award given to a student who has been outstanding in that sport)
  • NSWCPS Bar Award (Award given to a student who has been outstanding in that sport, and has received a NSWCPS Maroon Award in a previous year)
  • NSWCPS Outstanding Award (Award given to a student who has been outstanding in that sport and has already received a NSWCPS Maroon Award and a NSWCPS Bar Award in previous years)

Gary McSweeney Award

The Gary McSweeney Award is presented to the most outstanding Catholic Primary Schools Sportsperson of the year for male, female and Multi-class.

It is the most prestigious award given at the NSWCPS Sport Awards night. Gary has been a significant influence in Catholic students being able to compete against Government and Independant schools. We would not be able to provide the pathways we do now, without his guidance, support and commitment to Catholic School Sport.

Gary's involvement in Armidale Diocesan Sport, NSWCPS and NSWPSSA was instrumental to so many students and educators over the years. In 1996, Gary commenced his membership with Catholic Schools Coordinating Committee (now known as Catholic Schools NSW Sport) and took the first Polding Athletics team to a NSWPSSA carnival. This was the first event that Catholic students were able to compete in.

Gary was the Senior Vice President for NSWPSSA, and was the President for School Sport Australia. Gary McSweeney's legacy is incredible, paving the way for all students and staff to fulfil the potential as athletes, administrators and good-hearted individuals.

It is with great honour that CSNSW Sport name the awards for the most outstanding athletes across all of NSW Catholic Primary Schools in his honour.

NSWCPS Team Award

The NSWCPS team award is given to the most outstanding Polding or MacKillop Team for that year.
