Protests

Protests in the first instance should be made verbally by the swimmer to the referee immediately. This should be done in a courteous manner. A written protest, if required, must be made by the Team Manager within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the race. It should be handed to the Convener by the Team Manager who will be notified of the decision

- Once competitors are in the hands of the officials they may not receive advice or coaching
- Competitors are not to leave the water or lane until told to by the Referee

Starting Procedure

Whistle Blast: Competitor stands on the starting block.
Take Your Mark: Competitor immediately takes up starting position.
Swimmers must remain stationary until the signal to start has been given.
When all competitors are stationary: Hooter to signal start.
The one start rule will apply.
Swimmers are not permitted to swim more than 15m underwater during starts or turns.

Method of Starting

1. The check starter shall place competitors in their respective starting positions for the events. Students may start on the block, beside the block or in the water to help prevent incidents and accidents caused by diving. The referee will give out a long drawn out crescendo of the whistle to alert the officials and spectators and also to call the competitors to their positions in preparation to begin the race. Students starting in the water must have 2 feet on the wall and 1 hand on the backstroke bar. In the case of backstroke events competitors must start in the water. on receiving the command "take your marks", all competitors must remain stationary until the signal to start is given.

2. In the case of relays. For a swimmer starting in the water, the swimmers feet must be on the wall when the incoming swimmers hand touches the wall. The swimmer starting in the water must start on the left of the lane. If swimmer 2 starts in the water, swimmer 1 will not be able to gain an official time.
