In a significant milestone for Catholic Schools Broken Bay (CSBB), the 2026 Broken Bay Athletics Championship brought together Primary and Secondary students for the first time in a combined championship event at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Supporting CSBB’s Pre to Post pathway model, the innovative format saw almost 1,000 students compete across the day, creating a vibrant celebration of athletic excellence and school spirit.
The Secondary Championship was held during the morning session, providing students with the opportunity to represent their schools at the second level of the representative sport pathway. The Primary Championship followed in the afternoon, with students competing at their third representative level.
Hosting both championships at a world-class venue on the same day enabled a more streamlined and efficient approach to event delivery while fostering a stronger sense of connection across the CSBB sporting community. The event was made possible through the outstanding support of staff and students from both Primary and Secondary schools, officials from NSW Athletics, and volunteer education students from Australian Catholic University.
The representative pathway continued beyond the championship for many of our talented athletes. Primary students progressed to the NSW Catholic Primary Schools (CPS) Polding Championships in Newcastle, where medal-winning performances have earned athletes selection opportunities for the NSW Primary Schools Sport Association (PSSA) Championships in October. Secondary athletes advanced to the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) Championships at Homebush in September, competing against some of the state's best school-aged athletes.
